Some of our Borehole Engineering Staff, Matthew Pearson and David T Gowans took a trip to Germany last month to visit Franklin Electrical Factory.

The trip involved learning about the various pumps and systems used in borehole operations.

Franklin are a global leader in the manufacturing and distribution of products and systems focused on the movement and management of water and fuel. They offer pumps, motors, drives, and controls for use in a wide variety of residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, and municipal applications.

Matthew said “While in Germany David and I  attended Franklin Electrical based in Wittlich to learn about High Efficiency motors and the Variable Frequency Drives.

Throughout the days we learned how the permanent magnet motors function, the difference between Asynchronous motors and permanent magnet motors. The staff at Franklin Electrical also covered the correct use for du/dt filters and Sin Wave filters and the increase in efficiency of the permanent magnet motors, which in turn reduces energy use causing a further saving for clients.

We were also shown how to set up a Variable Frequency Drive in a practical session, the drives were very easy to use and understand. The technician showing the group bet that we could beat the Franklin CFO, who completed it in 7 minutes, he was correct!”
