Specialist Drilling Services

In addition to the range of services normally associated with the drilling industry, through significant investment into design and development, Drilcorp differentiates itself by the provision of a number of specialist services including: -

  • Hydrofracturing
In some areas of the country the geology beneath the site is non-porous and any drilled borehole would need to intersect water-bearing fractures in the bedrock. It could be that several boreholes are drilled without intersecting such a fracture and are therefore dry. Drilcorp has Hydrofracturing equipment that can be used to connect the borehole to nearby fractures. The operation involves installing a 'packer' into the borehole. The packer is then inflated and water is injected through a centre tube at very high pressures. The pressures are usually enough to burst the borehole wall linking it to nearby natural fractures in the strata. Any water in these fractures can now make its way into the borehole.

A paper has since been written by the British Geological Survey. J Cobbing and Brighid O’ Dochartaigh in the BGS which describes two Hydrofracturing projects carried out on behalf of Scottish Water by Drilcorp Ltd.

  • Geotechnical Site Survey
Drilcorp’s range of ‘Sonicbore’ drilling rigs are ideally suited to carry out core sampling due to their minimum impact on the environment due to zero spoil being created. This is of great significance when carrying out investigations on contaminated land where the drilling method is not only environmentally friendly but also offers reduced costs by removing the necessity to pay for disposal of contaminated waste.

Working closely with a geotechnical consultant partner Geoenvironmental Risk Solutions (GRS), Drilcorp is able to offer full geotechnical site survey services for any civil engineering undertaking.
  • CCTV Borehole Survey
Part of Drilcorp’s investment into specialist equipment includes CCTV borehole survey equipment. The state of the art system is capable of surveying boreholes of diameter range 25mm up to 2,000mm and depths of up to 500m.

The service provided includes the supply of a fully detailed report including:
    • Fully detailed DVD record of the borehole
    • Detailed observations by an experienced technician
    • Advice on any remediation actions required.
  • Tracked Mounted Air Compressors
The T’Mac features rubber tracks specially designed to minimise damage to delicate sites and also make the units manoeuvrable in restricted built-up areas. As self-propelled units, the T’Macs save on towing costs and are themselves equipped with tow bars enabling them to deliver other items to the site. Drilcorp can also supply a low-ground pressure land barge that can be towed behind the T’Mac loaded with tools for operations of the day.
