Drilcorp has finally taken the plunge and ventured out into the wide world!

It is almost 20 years since Drilcorp was inaugurated with the intention of offering UK clients a highly professional solution to all of their water supply borehole needs.

During this time the company has created a top class reputation with clients as diverse as Public Utility Companies, Government Agencies such as the Environment Agency, BGS, NERC, Hospitals, Golf Courses, Bottling Plants, Consultants, Farms as well as Domestic Supply.

Having started with one old drilling rig capable of small water supply boreholes, the company has expanded to having a range of ‘state of the art’ machines capable of drilling boreholes in excess of a kilometer deep or up to 48” diameter.Drilcorp does not only drill boreholes but offers a full service from design, licensing, drilling, testing, developing, rehabilitating, and, where a borehole is no longer required, decommissioning.

Boreholes have been drilled in all areas of the UK with many in challenging areas such as Central London or the Scottish Isles.
The skilled management team felt that the company now had the skills base and confidence to venture further afield and started looking to parts of the world where infrastructure is still being developed and where the specialist services that Drilcorp could offer would be in demand.
It was by coincidence that at this time Dr. Chigbundu Okoronkwo (Chig) came into contact with the company.  Chig had recently left Scottish Water having worked there for the previous eleven years successfully building up that companies water assets.

Chig – of Nigerian origin said ‘ I felt that I had reached as far as I could with Scottish Water and that I needed a new challenge’!
During his stay with Scottish Water, Chig was their ambassador carrying out many teaching seminars for water corporations in Central West Africa. In his youth he had indeed owned his own drilling rig and drilled many boreholes in his home state of Enugu – once known as Biafra.
Chig had a dream to return to Nigeria and create a waterwell drilling company offering a high level of skills and quality to his clients. This would be a life changing decision as he was leaving a stable job with a major company and, more to the point, would be away for extended periods from his Scottish wife and two girls who could not leave their education.

However the link was made and following several trips to Nigeria to assess the opportunities there, Dave Gowans, CEO Drilcorp Limited, concluded that there was excellent scope to develop a successful borehole drilling company offering a quality service to discerning clients.

Drilcorp Nigeria Limited was born 18th of June 2010. All legal documentation has now been completed and four drilling rigs have recently arrived in Nigeria. Chig will be Managing Director and Nigerian nationals will be trained to a very high standard to carry out the works.
Drilling operations will start by summer this year.
