At the beginning of January 2010, Drilcorp commenced work on a new well field to supply Aviemore with additional water supplies to cope with the Scottish town’s ongoing expansion and development plans.
Aviemore’s ambitious £25 million expansion scheme demands additional water resources to ensure its successful development and Drilcorp were brought in by Scottish Water Solutions to carry out the installation of four new boreholes to take water from alluvial deposits in the Spey Valley to supply Aviemore with additional water.
The project began on January 4th 2010, in the middle of the worst winter since records began, with Drilcorp spending the first week bulldozing the snow to clear the site in preparation for the drilling works!
Two of the boreholes were drilled to a depth of 55 metres and two to 35 metres, and once extensive pumping tests have been completed to improve both the yield and the quality of the water, the well field will produce an estimated 8000 cubic metres of water per day – more than enough to satisfy the demands of the Aviemore expansion.
