SEAHAM-BASED Drilcorp is in a hole.
The firm needs to expand after landing two high-profile jobs worth the best part of £2million.
The drilling company has secured contracts for the London Underground and Coal Mine Gas Recovery – the deals will safeguard the existing 32 staff and allow Drilcorp to start recruiting.
Expansion was already in the pipeline, but the latest contracts mean the firm has brought its plans forward and is now looking to take on a Risk and Compliance Manager and a Technical Project Manager. Both positions will involve working on a range of high-profile prestigious contracts.
Drilcorp Chief Executive Dave Gowans said: "Despite the current economic downturn, we have experienced a very successful year.
"The two recent contracts we have won relating to the burgeoning renewable industry are worth more than £1,500,000."
Drilcorp's main area of work is drilling for water and the company boasts a number of blue chip companies throughout the UK as clients.
The company is also heavily involved in the "renewables" market and the provision of ground source heating/cooling and has been working on several high profile projects in London for clients such as The Royal Festival Hall, The London School of Economics and Kew Gardens.
A succession of big contracts has helped the firm to an annual turnover of £3.7million for 2008 – and Dave is confident there is plenty more to come.
Dave, who has drilled for minerals from gold to diamonds across the globe, has ambitious plans for the future of Drilcorp.
"We have recently invested £800,000 in new drilling equipment and currently have a £2million order book," he said.
"Within five years I can see us hitting a £10million turnover figure and employing 45 staff."
